Vehicle Products
This is where you can learn more about some of our non-radio type products especially selected for the special needs of law enforcement users.

Let's face it, today's law enforcement vehicle is a rolling office on wheels.  For a long time, we resisted becoming involved in building vehicles on the premise that no one can be an expert at everything. Our specialty is communications. It’s what we’ve always done and it’s something we think we do better than anyone else. Then, along came a company called Unitrol (now a part of Federal Signal) who introduced us to the concept of vertical integration (they teach this in school now).

In essence, vertical integration is the idea of addressing and serving MULTIPLE existing customer needs. We found there was a lot of commonality in the electronics used in sirens and radios. Since we already had a large public safety customer base, the addition of the Unitrol sirens and wig-way lights made a lot of sense. Regrettably, we never took this concept to the next level which would have involved emergency lights.

We drifted away from the siren business as it became more of a commodity product sold primarily on the basis of price. We have always sought opportunities where value added services could give us an area of distinction. In communications, we know a lot of things that the majority of our competitors don’t know. It isn’t that we are any smarter – we just work harder by developing complimentary skills in FCC licensing, grant assistance, financial planning and unique solutions for maintenance. Additional information on our service is available at www.UltraCarePlus.com. The point is that we do not pursue business opportunities where the main criteria is just having the lowest price. We think there is more to business than just beating the other guy, so we got out of the siren business.

Over time, we noted that people were developing a business based on the concept of building law enforcement vehicles. More often than not, there were (and are) off duty public safety officers who had acquired installation capabilities by working for their own departments. We didn’t pay too much attention until these folks started specifying the equipment that was going into the cars and sometimes they didn’t specify our equipment. NOW they had our attention! So, we took a hard look at whether we should (or should not) get into the car building business.

What we found was that most of the people in this business are not insured (we carry $2,000,000 in Liability insurance), virtually none had (or have) any formal training in even basic electronics, much less communications. The radio shops that provide such services typically charge 20 to 25% more than the moonlighters. Most do not get the best prices on equipment since they purchase in small quantities.

Based on this information, we concluded that we could be a player in this car building business. The only thing lacking was the right people to do the job. We got ourselves a licensed professional electrical engineer and not one, but two ASE certified installers. NOW, we are ready to be a car builder. There is only one thing missing – CUSTOMERS, which we hope will include YOU!

Public safety communications has come a long way over the past 75 years and the truth is that today's mobile radios are much easier to install than their bulky counterparts of just a few decades ago.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that today's vehicles have as much computing power and sophisticated electrical systems as the original IBM Univac computer.  That's why today's installer has to be a lot more than a nuts and bolts guy.  Not only do you need to know radios, you need to know vehicles.  Even simple things like antennas and power connections can make the difference in getting the performance you need.  That' why we use only ASE certified installers under the direct supervision of a licensed electrical engineer.  And, you'll find our prices to be very competitive!

Other than radios, our second most favorite product is a vehicle camera system.  We offer camera systems both by Eagleye and Safety Vision.  We started with Eagleye, or of the original manufacturers of law enforcement camera systems and we (and our customers) have been very pleased.  More recently, added Safety Vision, a larger company with a broader produce line that allows us to address speciality unique requirements for those we serve.  Both offer great products, outstanding customer service, and fair prices.  More info is available at www.vehiclecameras.us.

Historically, we have not sold lights and sirens since these are mainly sold through distributors and catalog discounters.  Additionally, we have found that public safety users have some very strong opinions about what they want and do not want.  For this reason, we generally install the lights and sirens selected by the user without getting involved in the equipment sales process.  However, if you have a specific brand or model that is of interest, we invite you to contact us for a price quote.  We may be able to save you some money!

Mobile computing is another rather specialized area that we have only recently addressed.  Even though we have been involved in mobile computing since the mid seventies, we recognize that mobile computing consists of three very distinctive elements - the computer, the software, and the mount.  We know even less about specialized software than some so called experts, but we do know computers and that is why we have chosen to partner with Dell computers as a Value Added Reseller.

The mobile PC, or laptop if you prefer requires a mount and at the same time, it is a wise idea to install an equipment console to avoid driver/passenger compartment clutter.  We know the big names in mobile PC mounts and consoles and we can provide a professional installation using your existing consoles and PC mounts.

If you are installing a brand new system, we encourage you to take a hard look at the offerings of Legends Manufacturing Company.  These folks are the real heavyweights in the Midwest and they have offered us the opportunity to work with them in the states of Alabama and Mississippi as well as elsewhere if required.  The nice thing about Legends is the simplicity of installation which saves us time and that saves you MONEY.  Product information is available at www.legendsmanufacturing.com.

Speaking of Legends Manufacturing, they are our vendor of choice for push bumpers and brush guards.  The fact is that anyone with a machine shop and a little talent can make these products, but the folks at Legends do it right!  From an installers point of view, a product that installs quickly with a minimum of drilling equates to significant user cost savings.  We said it before, and we'll say it again - Legends equipment can save you money!  Still, if you have another brand of choice, we'll install it, do it right, and still save you money!

In the mechanical, non-electrical area we offer the complete line of Legends products including gun racks, prisoner shields, radio location boxes, seat organizers, skid plates, trunk trays, door panels, K-9 transport systems and seat organizers.  In short, we have what you need to build your vehicle to meet your exact requirements.  Better yet - we give you a choice. You can use the equipment available from our supplier partners or select the equipment of your choice.  Either way, we'll get the job done!

Thanks for visiting with us.  We look forward to serving you!
